Review of Minutes

These were accepted without modification.

Phoenix 100 update

A report has been written by DW.

The loss made was not as large as expected because both Play it again and the dancers charged less than they said they would. But there was not as much donation as we would have liked.

The Phoenix 100 organisation has decided that it will cease if the CIO incorporation is approved by the Charity Commission. Any remaining Phoenix 100 monies will be given to the CIO.

The meeting offered thanks to DW for her efforts with Phoenix 100.

MT expressed some disappointment with the technical presentation facilities in the Methodist Church to do with the placement of screens, controls and the type of AV signals it can accommodate. This is something to research in advance for a venue.

Numbers for the walks were good (mostly populated by familiar people).

Man engine

Will Coleman, with whom IR has worked in the past, has had an idea for the 10th anniversary of the WHS in 2016. This is to have an automaton of approximately 12m in height walking from Tavistock to Lands End. This would take about 14 days, starting on the first school holiday week. The route is planned to go through Minions.

We will see how this plan congeals and organise something to to coincide with its passing through Minions.

Proposed CIO status

The application has been submitted to the Charities Commission.

Tony Piper has been co-opted as a trustee.

The application response is expected to take a about a month.

A new bank account will be required (we can't just rename the Phoenix 100 account because the organisations are not of the same kind).

Finance update

There is no change to our financial holdings.

IR noted that the Caradon Writers organisation may now be dormant, in which case we should arrange for a transfer of assets (some money and a stock of books) to the CHP.

IR also reported that the Alec Kendall Books are now all at the bookshop. Any money from there will eventually come to the CHP.

IR suggested that we might record the origins of such monies to differentiate funds for specific purposes such as publishing.

Equipments

IR reported that Jon and Cheryl Manley are standing down from the Tevithick society. Dave Warne will take over their role.

IR proposed that DW writes to the Manleys to ask for access to the equipments they hold under the heading of "Caradon Mines and Miners". The surveying equipment is of value to (for example) Caradon Archaeology.

The school boxes have all been acquired from Anna Monks, together with the associated electronic data.

Sue Pike is doing schools liason for the museum.

The intent may have originally been to store the boxes at the museum, but we think that they could be managed by the CIO.

There has to be a checking process when they are delivered and returned. Sue Robbins currently manages them. Comprehensive information about them will be ready for schools to have at their launch next year.

The contents of the geology boxes require review and documentation.

Web status

IR has been continuing to publish what he can.

Action: PNJ to further attempt contact with Keith Mountifield for software update and Pair Internet credentials.

DW suggested that the CIO might take over the site and remaining funds and perhaps migrate to a Wordpress technology which more people know how to use.

Events

St Cleer graveyard clearing was postponed until 2015-09-26 due to schedule conflicts with other events. (It actually took place on 2015-10-17).

IR is teaching every saturday between now and July 2016.

MT reported that the Linkinhorne History and Community Archive group is active and using a room at the bottom of the manor house. Their talk on Caradon Town was very well attended and they did a trip of 23 people visiting the war museum at Davidstow.

There will be a CA talk by Sam Barnes on 2015-10-09 about HHfH.

Community Apple day is 2015-10-11.

Stuart House repairs are finished.

Any other business

TH has found a Phoenix mine timeline at the museum. She suggests it could be relocated to the Heritage Centre. Action: TH will give it to IR.

The museum will close for the winter at the end of October which will give them time to do more inventory work. The museum is actively seeking volunteers.

LS noted that it was National Heritage event last weekend. Next year we might capitalise more on this because a lot of vistors explicitly tour places in conjunction with this event.

Next meeting

2015-11-19-19:30 at Liskeard. The chair will be MT. Please contact him in advance of the meeting with any agenda items.

The meeting closed at 19:50 BST.
