Previous minutes

IR reported that PM has had the maps back from Cornwall365 with our corrections implemented. High resolution maps will be free for us to use.

Accepted as accurate. A typo in section 1 has now been corrected.

Man Engine and Finance

DW reported on the Man Engine event.

It was estimated that there were at least 4000 people at Minions to see it.

It was over an hour late leaving Liskeard and because many people had been unable to get into Liskeard to see it, they started arriving at Minions from about 14:00. We were ready to accommodate them for parking but there wasn't initially anything for them to see.

The traffic watch people were a vital element of the organisation. They were able to manage the parking of vehicles a long way down the road leading to Minions. If not for their ability to keep the traffic moving through Minions, the Man Engine itself would not have been able to travel to its Minions site.

DW has written letters of thanks to all the people involved.

The finances of the project were managed under Phoenix100.

Carnival week produced £131.48.

The Man Engine costs were £735.

£551 was gleaned from the donation buckets.

BO's walk raised £61 from 82(!) people.

By various means we now have £402 more than we started with before the event.

The meeting recorded thanks to DW for all the effort she put in to make the event a success.

Caradon Heritage Finance

There is £1219.54 in the bank.

DW has collected the remaining 76 books by Alec Kendall from the bookshop (The bookshop owes us a further £9). These will be distributed to people who might be able to sell them. It was agreed that we should charge £8 each for them.

Caradon Heritage update

DW described a degree of frustration with Cornwall Council's inability to provide records of the running costs associated with the Heritage Centre. This makes it very difficult to establish a baseline for a feasibility study.

There is a suggestion that we may get help from the community link officer based in Wadebridge to pursue this inquiry.

DW suggested that when raising capital funds with Crowdfunding systems we might offer artefacts like the books as investment rewards. It was agreed in principle that this might be done.

Equipment update

IR reported that he'd had a satisfactory discussion about equipment with Dave Warne of the Trevithick Society.

PNJ has repaired one of the Phoenix 100 laptops. The other is beyond economic repair.

Web update

IR reported that he'd twice visited the house of KM but there was nobody at home.

The web site continues to function, despite the fact that the original investment must by now have expired. If necessary we can contact the provider and/or move the site to another host. The domain name appears to be registered by someone in Cornwall Council and is currently due to expire on 2017-07-07.

Next meeting

2016-11-17, which will be the AGM to be chaired by MT. BO will give a presentation about Daniel Gumb.

IR will be away but agrees to continue in his current post.

At the AGM there will be a vote to agree a change to the constitution to remove the 3-year rule.

AOB

PNJ and IR are concerned that there may still be some archive material in the basement at Houseman's Engine House stored in less than ideal conditions.. This may include some historical ecology reports. This material officially belongs to Cornwall Council who seem to be the only people to have access.

DW agreed to approach Cornwall Council for access so that we can care for the material until it can be properly housed.
